Title: ASHI-St. Louis Masonry Hands-On Session

Description: This training session provides one hour of ASHI-St. Louis selected masonry educational topics with Darrell McMillian, MISL Technical Director, followed by an additional hour of attendees trying their hand at laying brick and block, and tuckpointing. Masonry education discussion to include supporting and reusing brick, mortar and grout, flashing and weeps, brick ties, tuckpointing and more. The hands-on session will take place in the bricklayer apprenticeship laboratory and will be supervised by the apprenticeship instructor Steve Jahnsen and local mason contractor representatives, depending on their availability. Due to space constraints, attendance will be limited to 30 attendees.
Instructor Information:
Darrell W. McMillian, PE, SECB
Darrell is a registered professional engineer with the state of Missouri and maintains certification through the Structural Engineering Certification Board. He is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Kansas and Missouri and is a past St. Louis Chapter President. Darrell co-chairs the Structural Design Task Group for the Masonry Alliance for Codes and Standards and holds memberships with the American Society of Civil Engineers, Structural Engineering Institute, American Society of Testing and Materials (Masonry Committees C12 and C15). He is currently serving as President of The Masonry Society (TMS) and also is a voting member of the TMS 402/602 Main Committee and Design and Seismic Subcommittees. Darrell has served as the Technical Director for the Masonry Institute of St. Louis since 2001.
